Capital Park Museum

For February, my older 7 children went to the Capital Park Museum downtown Baton Rouge while I stayed home with my littles along with some of my friends littles while they took my children.  Mrs. Dee taught the children about Primary and Secondary sources regarding research.  After their time in the classroom, they children went out in the museum to search and fill-out their papers using the info they learned.

Bluebonnet Swamp Field Trip

In January, we enjoyed an adventure in the swamp with our group, Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers.   The day we went it felt like "swampy" weather due to the time of the year.  The kids enjoyed an educational lesson on reptiles, looking around the educational building at all of the snakes, frogs, baby gators, and other swamp animals, along with a guide tour around their trails at the BREC Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.

Catching Up 2015 Field Trips

Life just seems to stay extra busy so I have little time to blog these days.  Though we are busy, we are all doing very well and thriving.  Hope y'all are all doing well, too.

Moms Christmas Gathering

State Archive Building Tour

Yesterday, some of our older kids from Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers went on a tour of the State Archive Building.  (This was the 3rd tour group from BCH.)  It was an incredible tour with much history from our great state of Louisiana.  However, I believe the tour was even better due to our tour guide, Dr. Hardy (our state archivist).  He was very personable as well as knowledgeable.  He engaged the children and kept their attention.  Dr. Hardy was filled with info and stories.

After our tour, some of our friends came over for lunch and play.  However, a couple of the moms were already back at our house watching the younger kiddos so the older ones could enjoy the trip.  Always good to network!  The kids enjoyed hanging out with their friends while the moms enjoyed a time of sweet conversation.

Triple Date Night

Back in July, we had a triple date night with two of my closest friends and their husbands to my favorite restaurant, PF Changs.  It was a great night spending time with all these special people.

Back to School Bash

On August 28, we had our 2nd annual Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers Back to School Bash.  We had inflatables to accommodate the different ages of children that attended this event.  The kids and parents were able to enjoy a great day of jumping, playing, and learning.  

Also, we had Barn Hill Preserve come out with their mobile school presentation program.  They brought a white cockatoo, red kangaroo joey, coatimundi, ball python, blue-tongued skink, and bearded dragon for a 45 minute presentation on each animal.  After the presentation, they offered pictures which the parents could purchase with the joey, ball python, or bearded dragon and then printed while on-site at our event.  

Those who wanted to stay after the presentation brought their lunch for picnic at on of our homeschool families homes, the Lindsays, who so graciously opened their home for this event.  Thanks Craig and Candi for always being so hospitable and generous to us!

BCH Moms Back to School Dinner 2015

This was our 2nd annual Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers Moms Back to School Dinner.  We had a great turn out.  In fact, it was a 100% turn out plus 1 extra.  City Cafe did a fantastic job hosting us.  We reserved their party for the maximum capacity of 70 moms.  

Yes, we had 71 wonderful moms together for one evening of food, fun, and fellowship.  We also had door prizes.  40 + door prizes due to the wonder generosity of many of our moms who have small businesses from home or love to craft.

  

Thank you to Angela, Anita, Chasity, and Jessica for helping with all of the door prizes and setting up for the event.  It looked fantastic!!!
Thank you Penny and Angela for providing the cake and mini cheesecakes!  They tasted wonderful!!!

BR Airport Field Trip

In July, our homeschool group, Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers, got to tour the BR Airport.  The children were able to tour the airport police/fire station along with a general tour of the airport.  The police/fire station was really neat.  Each one is trained as a policeman, fireman, and EMT so it's 3 jobs wrapped into one.  Their fire trucks are military grade due to the different terrain and situations that they may face.  In case of a call, they must be dressed, on the truck, and on their way to the scene in less than 1 minute with arrival time in at least 3 minutes anywhere on the air field.  INCREDIBLE!!! 

Overtones Music Studio Field Trip

Back in June, we went to Overtones Music Studio in Denham Springs.  They were so gracious to provide teachers for each day in order to accommodate our large group. 

They had different stations set up with different instructors so that they children could get a taste of different musical instruments as well as different music programs that they offer.     

Zachary Historic Village

In April, we went to the Zachary Historic Village for a hands-on learning experience on how life was back over 100 years ago.
