Our Patio Project ~ Part 1

We started on our patio project. It was very nice and I'm sure it was great for the previous owners but it is not exactly what we need with so many precious children and having people over.

I wish I would have taken a before shot actually before they started on the project but I didn't think about it until it was too late. This and the next couple are pictures of the patio are before we moved in.

That is a Holly tree that had fell over that we staked back into the ground when we moved in so it didn't actually stay that way. I'm sure you know that by now since I have taken pictures of the kids on and around the patio area.

The patio area had slate paver area along with many nice plants and trees.

Digging up plants.
They worked Thursday evening after Rob got off work, several hours on Saturday and around 6 1/2 hours of work on Monday. Cade, Ian, Tate, and Cai helped on Saturday and Cade, Ian, and Tate worked on Monday. Those boys worked really hard on Monday. They only stopped for a few water breaks and two Nutri-grain bars. That's right, they didn't even stop for lunch. They did a fantastic job and put in a long day of work. Rob took Cade, Ian, and Tate for snow cones when they finished Monday before we went to the Lindsay's for dinner.
The trailer loaded down with some of the plants and bushes.

This section got cleared our on Thursday night.

My Man moving plants!

Ian got to use the ax some which he loves.

Digging as a group effort.
Cai hauling off dirt on his shovel.

Tate and Cai working with the topsoil on the trailer.
Rob had gotten two loads of topsoil to use for the transplanting area.

They helped put the topsoil in our temporary nursery for the plants and trees. Not only did they dig up the plants but they transplanted them to a new location so that we can save them until we are done with the concrete work. Then we can see which plants we want to use and where instead of just getting rid of them.

Getting ready to pull up the Magnolia tree.
Here it goes...

Pulling another tree out of the ground. Do you notice the front end of the tractor off of the ground?

There it goes.
All of the plants and trees have been removed from the patio area.

This is part of the transplanting area.

BONUS:

Saturday, Emma and Abram were inside helping me bake while the others were outside working.
Emma was wearing her new apron that Aunt Pat bought her.
Emma and Mommy in there aprons.

Abram helping Mommy.

Look at that BIG smile!!
This weekend was very productive. We still have to get all of the slate pavers up and do some dirt work before we can frame and pour concrete. We are wanting a large concrete patio area that we will later cover. I will keep you updated with the progress.
Rob, Cade and Ian started moving the slate pavers tonight. Hopefully we will be able to complete this job in a couple of weeks.
