For Daddy's Girls

Do you remember this post where we were making room for Mammaw and Rob modified one of the boys bunk beds to triple decker bunk beds? Well, he has done it again only he built his girls toddler bunk beds using some extra head boards and foot boards from other beds we had in the attic. We had bought several extra sets of bunk beds from our state in an auction that they had online for the public. Got these nice, solid, wooden bunk beds that were dorm beds for about $10-15 a set.
We've had the girls sharing a bed for the past month or two to get Sarah used to a regular bed. We usually move our little ones out of the crib by age 13-14 months old. This has been a great transition age for them because they still think of the bed like the crib with the rail until they learn to climb out. By that time, they are used to the bed. We were looking at our options for their room since the baby will be in the room too. We wanted to make the best use of space. We could have gotten two toddler beds but that was not my first choice as Emma has been in a regular twin bed for a while. We had heard about toddler bunk beds so we started investigating that option. We found a company in the UK that built them but they would not ship to the US. Then, we found a small family owned company in another state that makes them but they want almost $600 for a plain set of toddler bunk beds. After thinking about it, Rob decided he could build these and it would cost a lot less!
These beds use a crib size mattress to give you an idea how long they are and they are much shorter than regular bunk beds. We had another set of bunk beds we could have used but we were not ready for Emma to be that high off the ground plus there is a ceiling fan in their room which adds to danger!
Here is the finished product though I think he might add another rail across the top to make it a little safer. The girls were excited and slept great last night in their new beds.

We want to get them matching bedding but are not in a rush to get it until we find what we want. They make bedding for toddler beds so that is what we will use for them. Right now, we have to get another crib mattress because we used the one from the baby bed and a friend of ours gave us one that they had extra. The new baby will sleep in my room for the first 6 weeks anyway.
What do you think about the beds?
I think Rob did a great job and I am very proud of him and his work:) Thank yo dear for all of your hard work! I love you!!!

It came out very nice. Is the vertical height less than a regular bunk bed too?

Hi, I came over from Laura's blog today and saw these awesome bunk beds! We are going to have to transition our three girls into one room in a few months and that looks like a great idea. I'll have to keep that in mind.
