In a Blink of an Eye

Yesterday, I was planning on going to Walmart to get groceries for next week with Emma, Sarah, and Cade while the other boys stayed home. Rob needed to mow down the hill and in the back of our yard where it is rougher to mow plus he was going to try to work on our riding lawn mower that is broken.
Cade and Ian mowed the front, sides, and the back of the house on the flat part of our yard which only left the areas for Daddy. Well, it started raining around 4:30 pm so when Rob got home he started working on the riding mower in the garage to make good use of time due. The rain continued so I decided it was too late to go with the girls. I didn't want to get out in the rain with them. Rob decided I should go around 8 pm after I put the kids to bed while he was still working. That sounded like a good plan. You see I didn't want to go Friday morning because we are having company over that night and I wanted to be able to work on all of the food and not worry about the groceries because you never know what the Lord actually has planned for your day. You may have your plans but that doesn't mean it couldn't change "in a blink of an eye".
The Lord knew I needed to be home last night instead of at Walmart so I am thankful for the rain. Once it stopped raining, Rob went down the here to the back part of our yard and started mowing. There are lots of trees so it doesn't get as wet and soggy as the rest of the yard from a good rain. I had just got finished reading to the children and they were going to be getting ready for bed. The next thing I knew the kids were screaming that something was wrong with daddy. I looked out the windows and saw Rob throw himself on the patio. He had ran up part of the hill on one leg and then had to crawl the rest of the way up because none us could hear him. I ran out to see what was wrong. He immediately told the kids to go inside and for me to get a towel. I had no idea what was wrong. After I got a towel, I went to see what was wrong. He said that something flew out of the mower and hit his foot. We had no idea what the extent of the injury was at that point. All I knew was that his foot was bleeding inside of his shoe. He was afraid that he was cut really bad. Rob thought the shoe and sock was acting as a compression. We slowly worked on getting the shoe off. Finally, I just started to pull it off and I saw something sticking out of his foot and the back of his shoe. That explained the pain that he had every time we tried to pull on the shoe and the back of his foot.

Here it is. This piece of old metal fencing flew out of the mower, went in to the side of his foot and came out of his heel. I cut off his sock and checked out the puncture wounds. I called a friend to come over and sit at the house while we went to the ER. Rob took a shower and I put all of the children to bed while we waited on our friend, Amy. Once she arrived, we headed off to the hospital.

The ER at this particular hospital was not too busy at the time we got there which was good because we hated for Amy to have to stay at our house too long. They did an X-ray to make sure that he didn't have any other metal left in his foot along with checking his bone. The X-ray came back good with no additional problems. They cleaned it up and gave him his Tetanus shot along with a prescription for an oral antibiotic to take in order to keep from getting an infection.

What a night! You see "in a blink of an eye" your day can change without warning. The Lord knew that I needed to be home last night instead of Walmart. I am thankful that it wasn't worse than what it turned out to be. So, the children and I went to Walmart this morning and the shopping is done. Rob is at work but I know he is not feeling that well today. They told him to stay off of it as much as possible in order for it to heal faster. I can see him know, rolling around in his chair from his desk to the copier back forth today.

Has your day changed "in a blink of an eye" recently?

What a story!! Isn't it amazing what the Lord will do to keep us where we need to be. Rain. Of all things. Wow!!

I've not had a "blink of the eye" day recently, but will never forget last November when it happened. Literally, in the blink of an eye, we almost lost Caleb.

I am glad that it hit his foot and no where else. I have had those type of events. God knows what he is doing.

Amy,I'm so glad you were there. Tell Rob we'll be praying for quick healing for his foot. The children and I took their cousin to Mt. Vernon yesterday. I thought of you the whole time. The museum part is fabulous. You'll have to come back for a visit. . . when we're back to enjoy it with you!!!

that's terrible! I'm glad it wasn't any worse. My parents have a friend whose wife was mowing the lawn several years ago and one of the kids ran up and stuck their hand (foot? can't remember) into it and lost a finger/toe. Shudder.

Oh my!! How scary when our husbands get harmed. They are the strong ones right but yet still vunerable to life and it's happenings :-) I'm so glad he is okay. What a scare!

I didn't realize you were so close. You counter says 44 days. What a blessed time. I love being pregnant, leaning on the Lord for each deliver. God is an awesome Creator isn't He?

I'll be praying that your husband feels better~

Wow! A few years ago, when my grandmother was still alive, a neighbor of hers was cutting her grass. Something hit him in the abdomen, and he had to stop. They didn't think too much of it. Later he began to be in a lot of pain, and his wife took him to the hospital. He had a piece of wire imbedded in his abdomen and he had to be operated on! It was awful. So glad he is okay now! Grass cutting - some dangerous work!! (Ha)
