Making Dolls

We have been studying the Colonial times in Tapestry the past few weeks.  I have not been doing any extra projects with the children because it seems we have been really busy.

In the book, Colonial Kids by Laurie Carlson, we read about the games and toys in which many of the children played all or most being handmade.  I wasn’t planning on doing any of the projects but the boys took to it themselves.  They saw the projects when we were reading about it and decided they would do it themselves.  While I was reading to them, they (Cade, Ian, and Tate) made dolls for their sisters.

P3090630 We did not have all the right material or supplies but they used their imaginations to make these Cornhusk Dollies, Spoon Doll, and Poppets.

I think they turned out cute.  This was very nice for them to do it on their own without any help from Mommy.

Great job boys!!!

Great job boys! Maybe you should just let them be in charge of the projects...at least those that aren't messy. I assume they'll want to make the ships that were listed for this week too.

What a sweet thing to do for their sisters.

We made clothespin dolls about a year ago and my daughter still plays with them.
