Horse Field Trip

P9230251

Friday, we went on a field trip to ride and learn more about horses.  We had 24 adults and 72 children there.  Everyone was separated into three groups so that we could rotate between three stations and allow more children the opportunity to ride.

(There were a couple of families that were late so they didn’t get in the group shots.)

Group 3 We were in group 1 and started out at the coloring station.  This was a station that we set up in order to keep the kids busy while they were waiting for the other stations.  If we would’ve only had 2 stations, I would’ve had to decrease the number of children who could participate.  We already had a limit of 60 riders.

One of the older boys kept some of the kids busy playing in the open field.

Our group moved to the next station which was the riding station.  Each child was able to ride the horses a couple times around the fenced area.

I had to take this picture to show that homeschooled kids can stand in a line.  I hear a lot of people comment that homeschoolers don’t learn how to stand in a line like the kids that are sent to schools.  We said, “Line up,” and they lined up in this great line all by themselves.

P9230167 Emma rode with Kaylee on one of the horses.  This is a big improvement for her considering she does not like to be around animals especially dogs, cats, etc.  Last year, she bit Mrs. Sam because she was scared of being on the horse.

Here she was not so sure about it…

Sarah rode with Cade.  She had no problem getting on the horse but she wouldn’t give me a smile.

At the third station, the children got up close and personal with a horse and learned about grooming and the different body parts.  Also, they were given a quiz about the different body parts.  If they answered correctly, they were able to paint an X with their fingers on the correct spot of the horse which the kids enjoyed.

After the field trip, we had a time of food and play at Candi’s house for those who wanted to stay.  We had about 15 families stay for lunch.  We had the families bring picnic lunches for the kids while Candi and I made lunch for the adults. Also, each family was asked to bring a dessert to share for everyone to enjoy.

We had BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, and baked beans for lunch.

P9230257We haven’t had rain in forever and it decided to rain a torrential rain while the kids were eating and playing.  It didn’t matter to the kids because they were having fun playing in the rain.

The rain did stop but some of the families left early due to the rain.  Those that stayed had a fun time of play and fellowship.  It was a great field trip.  Glad we were able to enjoy the horses without the heavy rain.  Looking forward to our next activity for October.

Again another field trip I wish that we lived closer to go on. Looks like the kids had a blast both with the horses and in the rain. Also you have made me hungry for BBQ ;)

Sounds like a great fieldtrip. And love playing in the rain... although way too cold for that here now... in the 50's!
