Our Family Vacation 2011 ~ Part 1

Last week, we went on a family vacation to the Blue Ridge Mountains in N. Carolina.  We haven’t been on a big, family vacation in about 5 years.  That was when I was pregnant with Emma and we went to Washington, D.C and stayed with our dear friends in Virginia.

We wanted to do something different with our family this year instead of something like the beach.  Rob wanted mountains and creeks where the kids could roam, explore, and play.

We ran into a couple we know, Candi and Craig’s Sunday School teachers, one night at a local Mexican restaurant.  We were talking to them and catching them up on the things going on in our family and started talking about trying to plan a vacation along with our desires for it.  Turns out they own a cabin up in the mountains in N. Carolina and blessed us with the opportunity to stay there for a week.  It had everything we were looking for in a trip for our family.  Our God is so faithful and does give His people the desires of their hearts.  We couldn’t believe how all of this transpired.  Thank you so much Mr. Guy and Mrs. Harvine for your generosity!!!

Here’s the cabin:

It sits up on a beautiful hill on 11 acres with a beautiful creek running through it away from town.  It was very quiet, serene, and beautiful country.  You could sit or stand out on the porch and hear the water running through the creek. The porch wrapped around three sides.

There was a pretty little area down from the cabin with a fire ring and picnic area.

Loft area aka Ian and Cade’s room

(It had a futon that folded out into one of the kid’s beds.  Ian slept on the bed and Cade decided to sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor.  They didn’t want to share.)

This was the lovely little sitting area in the upstairs bedroom.  The antique couch rolled out into a bed.  Sarah and Emma slept on that bed while Asa slept in a sleeping bag on the floor.

We enjoyed the cabin.  It was a lovely, peaceful home away from home.  We didn’t want to leave on that last day.

I will have many post from our trip.  Between my camera, Rob’s camera, and Ian’s camera, we have close to 700 pictures to go through.  It will take me some time.  I will post them as I am able.  Not to mention we did a lot in the 7 days we were gone;)
